the Genesis Café

The message of Jesus Christ was known as the “Gospel of the Kingdom”, and wherever His disciples later went—as eyewitnesses of His life, teachings, death, and resurrection—they eagerly shared their Messiah’s Gospel.

Today, there is nothing more foundational to understanding and living our faith than to know and embrace this same Gospel of the Kingdom.

So what, exactly, did Jesus mean when He said, “The Kingdom is near, repent and believe the good news?”

The Younger & the Elder, together with author Robby McAlpine, set out together to explore what Jesus meant. Drawing on the Gospels and the book of Acts, as well the writings of George Eldon Ladd, their animated conversations (and interactions with the Crusty Irish Barkeep, the shrewd but wary Proprietress, and the irrepressibly artistic Barista) make for a lively, thought-provoking, and spiritually invigorating journey of discovery.

The Genesis Cafe is written so well that I literally (not figuratively) read the entire book in one sitting. The reason why this book is so engaging is because Robby employs a genius literary move: he records discussions he has with two characters, the Elder and the Younger.

“The conversations between these characters are engaging and very rich... The Genesis Cafe is, quite frankly, a work of art. Few books can unpack such deep theological concepts in such readable and practical ways.”

“Robby has continued the fine and well-proven tradition of teaching by stories. Through the characters of the Elder, the Younger, and the Author you get a well thought out definition of what the Kingdom of God is and how it affects followers of Jesus today. It has been a long time since I have read something this good on such an important message.”
